Worms are a problem that often interfere with children's health. Poor sanitation and lack of awareness of a clean lifestyle are two major causes of the high prevalence of intestinal worms.

There are different types of worm infections. Here are common types of worms that infect humans, as reported by the BBC.

Pinworms (threadworms)
It is the most common parasitic worms. They are small (approximately 1 cm in length), a pale, thin worms that look like cotton yarn and thrive in the intestine.

Pinworm eggs can stick your hand through human waste. When your hands are contaminated into your mouth, the eggs can enter the body, they hatch in the small intestine and move down to the colon. There pinworms attached to the intestinal wall and eat.

When they are ready to lay eggs, worms move and spawn multiple skin around the anus. That's when you might feel suspicious exposed worms because of itching around the anus (pruritus), which is usually more intense at night.

It took about a month of ingesting worm eggs to feel itching in the anus. Adult pinworm sized 3-10 mm so that it can be seen with the naked eye.

Roundworms (Asnematodes)
This worm is bigger than pinworms. Some of them look more like garden worms and live in the intestines. They are less common than threadworms.

Tapeworms (Cestode)
These worms are usually found in undercooked meat (beef, pork, fish) or contaminated water. The tapeworm is a giant among all parasitic worms. Can reach 8 feet in length, most of the adult human gastrointestinal tract.

Tapeworm is pale white, no mouth, no anus and no digestive tract. It can even live up to 25 years in the intestine of its host.

What is the Solution?

Poor hygiene, especially not wash his hands after using the toilet, is a major factor in the spread of infection.

Exposure to cat and dog feces can cause an infection of worms. Pregnant women and children should avoid litter tray and always wash your hands after contact with pets.

Pinworms can be diagnosed by looking worms in or on the stool, or by collecting samples of their eggs by pressing the small strip of masking tape on the skin around the anus children as soon as they wake up in the morning.

Anti-parasitic drugs used to treat pinworm infection, and a single dose may be all that is needed. All families should be treated at the same time.
