Not Infectious Disease Threat Seriously

Disease is not contagious (PTM) is increasingly becoming a serious threat. Not only the health of individuals, as well as to health development and national economic growth.

PTM or also called non-communicable diseases (NCDs) such as diabetes and hypertension, the more threatening the people of Indonesia. This is in line with the changing lifestyle of the world that ignores health, such as smoking, obesity, diet, alcohol, physical inactivity, and psychosocial stress.

Horrible again, PTM is now not only attack those who are elderly. Latest phenomenon noted, in the past five years, the number of people with diabetes and hypertension in the country began to increase in the population at the age of relatively young and productive, ie 45 years. In Indonesia, PTM is estimated to cause 64% mortality rate. PTM In addition, abnormalities in heart disease to be the cause of death with the highest number of 30%, followed by cancer with the amount of 13%.

Residents of other Southeast Asian countries are also facing a plague that causes PTM 2.5 deaths per year and is also responsible for 60% mortality rate. As a result of the increasing number of patients with PTM, coupled with an aging population, the annual PTM deaths are projected to continue to increase worldwide. Based on data from the World Health Organization (WHO), PTM is the leading cause of death worldwide causing over 36 million deaths in 2008.

As a result, two out of every three deaths in the world due to PTM. The WHO called it a "slow motion disaster". PTM affect low-income countries and middle and accounted for 80% of deaths PTM on a global scale. The largest increase of cases of PTM is expected to be seen in low-and middle-income areas. PTM is expected to inhibit the growth of poverty reduction initiatives in low-income countries due to increased household costs related to health.

Predictably, the number of deaths from PTM will continue to rise significantly in the coming years. "Although health care infrastructure progress rapidly, the need for services PTM can not be fulfilled because of the increasing number of patients. It takes action and appropriate methods to control and prevent the PTM and mitigation of the impact, "said Dr. Wasista Budiwaluyo MHA, Senior Advisor Hospital (RS) Ciputra, the launch of the ASEAN Consultation 2012 by Philips Healthcare, some time ago.

According Wasista, if not successfully prevented and managed, PTM will be the most expensive problem to be faced by the health system of a country. Losses in global economic output caused by PTM will amount to USD47 million, or 5% of gross domestic product (GDP) in 2030.

The government has formulated a number of programs in the control of PTM. Director General of Disease Control and Environmental Health (P2PL) Ministry of Health, Prof. Dr. Tjandra Yoga Aditama SPP (K) MARS DTCE DTM & H, said the government was trying to control PTM increased from upstream to downstream.

In addition, the government working together various programs and partnerships with the private sector. Control program, according to him, must be done in earnest, comprehensive, and integrity through the continuum of care approach, which is concerned with the control of PTM such as stop smoking, unhealthy diet, and physical activity, which began in fetus to older adults. Tjandra expressed, since 2009 has formed the National Labor Network Control Team PTM (Tim JKNPPTM).

Another program is to strengthen the role of health care providers in public and private hospitals, health centers, and community volunteers who have developed resourced public health efforts (UKBM) through posbindu (integrated coaching post).
